My Story

Born with his eyes wide open with curiosity, we knew he was 'Special'. Growing up with a cheerful disposition, never without a smile on his face. School was a 'Fun' thing for him, as he excelled in all aspects of the process. Before his dx at the age of 10, he was very interested in Tennis, Baseball, and Football, and he was pretty good in all sports, often bragging as to how fast he can run! He was becoming a young man, and was forced to grow up fast as he (We) entered the "World of Childhood cancer" in Sept. of 2002. Billy, or Bill as he likes to be called now; endured the riggers of his cancer treatment with few 'serious' side effects of which he took on with a "Bring It On" attitude. Through 9 months of intense Chemotherapy, and major Surgeries to remove his hip, femur, and knee; he always showed that "Special" person inside. Just before he was to receive his final chemo treatment for his bone cancer we were literally 'slammed in the chest' with a diagnosis of Meylodisplastic Syndrome (MDS), Billy's bone marrow was destroyed by the poisons (VP-16) used to cure his bone cancer. We were told right then and there, that we needed to find a "Good" bone marrow donor, or Billy wouldn't survive 6 months. Are you Freaking Kidding us........we looked at each other. Billy just beat bone cancer....now he has Leukemia.......unbelievable. Billy was placed on the bone marrow registry and within 3 days..........are you ready for this..............a PERFECT MATCH was found! Now do you see what we mean by "SPECIAL"! Billy had a successful bone marrow transplant in Mar. 2004, and you'll have to read his web site to believe it........... We Love you Son,Mom and Dad You can gather all the info you like from the web site We started the day he was dxd in Sept. 2002 at: http://www.wcgowacki.com/BILLY.html
