My Story

Joey was originally diagnosed with high risk TCell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia August 2008. While still undergoing treatment, he relapsed isolated to his centeral nervous system August 2010. After much debate among oncologists, his team (which of course included his parents) decided not to pursue a transplant but to instead add high dose methotrexate and nelarabine to his protocol. Joey had had 10 rounds of cranial radiation in 2008. Following his relapse, he had an additional 11 rounds of cranial radiation in 2011 as well as 11 rounds of spinal radiation. It took 18 months to get Joey back into long term maintenance. On January 31, 2014 Joey took his last oral chemotherapy and, we pray, began the post-cancer chapter of his life. Joey will continue to have monthly clinic visits for a physical exam and blood work for several years.
