My Story

My name is Henrik and I was diagnosed with a brain tumor when I was 10 years old. My tumor is very rare and inoperable. Part of my tumor is a kind that will not respond to any medication or treatment, and the other part was malignant. I've had six surgeries total. Three of those were major brain surgeries. They have only been able to get very small bits for biopsies. I've done four rounds of chemotherapy and 24 sessions of proton radiation. Now I'm working on getting strength back so I can do things like bike riding and running. I have to go in every 3 months for an MRI of my brain to make sure the cancerous tumor is not growing. The cancerous part of the tumor should have been killed by radiation and chemotherapy, but we can't know for sure. The non-cancerous part can't be removed because major blood vessels are wrapped around it and chemo & radiation don't work on its kind of cells.  I love to go camping, hiking, fishing, ride my street bike long distances with my dad, beat box, play the didgeridoo, and draw. I have a cute Pomeranian named Mini Munch. My mom and dad got him for me so I'd have a therapy dog. He's pretty naughty and likes to pop up like popcorn, but he's very sweet and likes tummy rubs.
Life is finally getting back to somewhat normal. I'm 13 now and like to do pretty normal teenager things like texting, gaming, and hanging out with friends. Because of my brain cancer, I lost the vision in my right eye and can never play contact sports or join the military. I don't let that stop me though, from living life to the fullest. I'm in 7th grade, have a 4.0 GPA, am on the ASB team and in Honor Society, and go to Art and Garden clubs after school. I'm also in honors Math and English classes.
