April 23, 2026 Update:
Finn received his first dose of CAR T-cells at Stanford on March 30. Going into the infusion, we knew from an MRI two weeks earlier that the tumor had begun to regrow slightly in his original resection cavity.
The doctors prepared us for possible side effects of the infusion—high fever, headaches, seizures, and brain swelling—but thankfully, Finn did not experience any of these. He remained in the hospital for three weeks during this first phase for observation and completed a follow-up scan 14 days after infusion, as required by the protocol. That scan showed additional growth along the resection cavity. Finn’s doctor, Dr. Katie Ryan, had warned us this might happen, as the treatment can cause inflammation that appears as tumor growth on imaging (called pseudoprogression).
Yesterday, Finn had another scan at 28 days post-infusion. Today, we received those results. While the overall area of concern is slightly larger, there are encouraging signs that the CAR T-cells are working. It appears they have created a cavity within the larger mass.
Based on this, we will continue forward with the trial. Finn is scheduled to receive his second CAR T-cell infusion at a higher dose on Monday.
Dr. Ryan explained that this treatment is like a foot race—the CAR T-cells are effective at killing cancer cells, but they must keep pace with the speed of this aggressive tumor.
We ask for your prayers that the CAR T-cells will catch up to the cancer’s growth.
We are deeply grateful for the continued support from our community and will keep you updated as we move forward with each infusion.
