My Story

Update 2014!!! No more speech therapy! No more speech class at school! Andy (aka "Awesome Andy") has superceded expectations, getting rave reviews from teachers, staff, principles, friends, family, and even his sister. :) There's the hearing loss to watch still, but Andy's social skills, verbal skills, academic skills, abstract reasoning, reading, etc.... Just... Awesome. ;) A shoe-in for the gifted program, he outscored his entire family, even his dad, making him the "smartest" Kelley. Just ask him. Andy is beginning to understand some of what he went through, although is not yet fully aware of the impact. He DOES know that there were hundreds of people, many we didn't even know, from all over the country pulling for him. In his own way, he has expressed his gratitude for all of it, even to particular individuals. He is beginning to understand some of the sacrifices made but does not feel a twinge of guilt, rather he sees the positives that have come of it. Previous message: We are happy to report that Andy has been cancer-free since the end of treatment and has not looked back. Despite some mild hearing loss as a result of chemo, he is progressing very well. He is in speech therapy and speech class in pre-school to correct his speech problems, but other than that, he is average to above-average. Go Andy! On behalf of Andy, we would like to thank you for your support in curing childhood cancer.
