My Story

Update October 19, 2021 Abby Furco was an artist, chef, Girl Scout, world traveler, sister, and friend to all. She loved reading, learning, going to camp, playing Minecraft, and the colors green and blue. She captured the hearts of the St. Baldrick’s community and people around the world. Surrounded by her family, amongst so much love, and in comfort and peace, Abby passed away on October 19, 2021. Diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 4, Abby endured more than 2 ½ years of treatment. After eleven months of remission, her cancer returned. A bone marrow transplant put her cancer in remission again but caused acute graft vs. host disease. The damage done to her heart by chemotherapy was severe. In early September, Abby had surgery to place a pump in her heart. While the surgery was a success, her kidneys failed, and she suffered a stroke, from which she never recovered. Update Jan 2016.  We just celebrated Abby's 1st "rebirthday."  Abby received an unrelated donor, perfect match, bone marrow transplant in Jan 2015.  She continues to have issues and remains immunosuppressed from the treatments after the transplant, but we are so hopeful as her recovery continues in the forward direction.  Taking it day by day, but continue Expecting Miracles and between that & the wonders of science with research, we will get there!! Update...Abby has relapsed, we couldn't be more heartbroken. After being just 11 months off treatment, Abby relapsed Sept 16, 2014 with PH ALL. Abby is currently undergoing chemotherapy to be prepared for a bone marrow transplant. Hi! My name is Abby. My favorite color is green and I love princesses. I had Leukemia, specifcially PH ALL. I love to play with my friends, go to school, swim, play video games of any kind, color, and I love to be with my sisters. Your donation to St. Baldrick's Foundation in my honor means so much to me and my family. St. Baldrick's plays a big part in research for my specific rare type of childhood Leukemia. Because of the research, I am here today. Thank you and thank you St. Baldrick's Foundation!!
