Be a hero for kids with cancer! Join this St. Baldrick's event, and whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer, or donate, we hope you'll be a part of the excitement. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Get involved and you'll be giving hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
Please see below for a few notes on each of the children that we will be honoring at the event:
Hailey Bok
Hailey was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2006. She went through 2 1/2 years of chemotherapy, spinal taps, bone marrow biopsy at St.V's in Toledo. She continues to go to Toledo every four months for physical and bloodwork. She has endured more than ANY child should EVER go through. Hailey's been cancer FREE for 4 years!!! Hailey is a happy but shy 2nd grader at Ayersville. She loves to play with her two sister's Alyssa and Raina. The last two years she has been cheering in upwards. She loves to play softball and swim. We Pray someday we find a CURE!!
JT Nusbaum
JT was diagnosed with kidney cancer named Wilm’s Tumor on January 27, 2007, when he was four years old at Toledo Children’s Hospital. The tumor was first located on his right kidney. JT underwent chemotherapy and radiation in order to shrink the tumor to do a nephroectomy without hurting any of his other organs. After surgery, JT went through 8 rounds of radiation at Flower Hospital and continued his treatments of chemotherapy, blood and platelet transfusion. JT was 9 months in remission when we received the terrifying news on April 1, 2009 that he had relapsed and the tumor had relocated to his left kidney. JT underwent more chemotherapy and radiation treatments to try to eliminate the tumor. JT lost his hair through radiation & chemotherapy. He found a peace of comfort to see of his father John, shaving his head and went bald during his journey, his sisters and cousins also cut their hair and donated to “Wigs For Kids”. JT is now 10 years old and is 2 years in remission he is a happy healthy kid. JT continues to see his oncologist for reevaluation every 6 months. He is so honored and blessed to have such a great community to help us in the FIGHT AGAINST CANCER!
Ali Cheek
On April 5, 2006 at the age of 8 Ali was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She underwent the standard treatment of ALL of 2 years and 2 Months. In this treatment she had to undergo numerous bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures to put the chemo directly in her spine. On most nights she had to take upwards of 20 plus pills. Ali was such a strong kid, she never cried until almost 6 days after she was diagnosed and the only reason she did is because they had told her she was going to lose all her hair. She had her last treatment on June 8, 2008, is down to only getting checkups once a year and is doing great. Ali plays high school volleyball and softball, has the longest, thickest hair and is blessed everyday for the people she has around her.
