Event Details

Welcome to our second year of St. Baldrick’s at Ramstein! Last year, we had almost 100 volunteers generate $6,800. See our article in the 9 July 2010 issue of the Kaiserslautern American and http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123211890. St. Baldrick’s is the largest non-profit public charity exclusively for Pediatric Oncology (Childhood Cancer) research in the world. This is done by people organizing events held in 29 countries. In these events, volunteers take pledges from family and friends to get their heads shaved. These “Shavees”, put their hair under the clippers not only to garner donations, but also as a symbol of solidarity and support for those children who lose their own hair while undergoing the vigorous and intensive treatment that save their lives. These donations are given back in the form of research grants that help pediatric oncology professionals discover and create better treatments for the 160,000 children who will be diagnosed with cancer this year worldwide. St. Baldrick’s has directly benefitted one of our own in our Air Force Family. This event is especially personal to our event coordinator who’s own daughter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on June 26th 2008 when she was 21 months old. Thanks to her oncologist, Dr. Don Coulter, who has received research grants from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Josie is now an energetic 4 year old well on the road to recovery. How is this done? Volunteers register with St. Baldrick’s by going to the “Participate in this event” link. You can register as an individual, or you can create your own team. If organizations want to make their own teams, you can select this option when registering. Check out our event page for last year to see some of the teams: http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/eventid/5286/eventyear/2010. Spread the word to family, friends and coworkers via email, word-of-mouth and social networking sites. You will receive supplies in the mail that will assist you in this task, so be sure that you put your overseas postal address (PSC). Our venue is pending at this point and this will be determined by the amount of participants we get. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call the event coordinator. Thank you all.

St. Baldrick’s Honored Kids

Kids with cancer are our reason for it all. They’re the inspiration behind our event and the reason we’re helping fund childhood cancer research. We believe all kids should be able to grow up and turn their dreams into realities. Join our event or make a donation, and click the photos below to read their incredible stories.
