Last year, the St. John’s community came together to raise awareness in the fight against childhood cancer at the first Annual 1st St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Locks of Love event – and was highlighted on WPIX News – Check out the web videos. Over 25 members shaved their heads and/or “cut their locks” in solidarity with children who suffer from this terminal disease. As part of this event, participants were asked to raise money, and 100% of the proceeds went directly to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Last year alone, the St. John’s community raised over $15,800 and donated 24 locks in love. So why not join this year’s great event?!? Leading up to the shaving/haircutting event, participants raise money through web-based donations – then on March 16th at 1:30pm, we gather as a community in support of him/her at the day’s festivities, which hope to include the WSJU Radio, someone who is shaved by our very own Johnnie Thunderbird, a 50/50 Raffle, and much more! The St. Baldrick’s Foundation was founded by a wonderful alumnus, John Bender TCB ’87. His commitment to his Vincentian education is a true testimony to all who meet him. You can read the full story about John Bender, which was featured in the STJ Alumni Magazine, at http://www.stjohns.edu/academics/graduate/tobin/success/alumni/benderjr.stj. We are so proud to be able to host this amazing event on the St. John’s campus.

St. Baldrick’s Honored Kids

Kids with cancer are our reason for it all. They’re the inspiration behind our event and the reason we’re helping fund childhood cancer research. We believe all kids should be able to grow up and turn their dreams into realities. Join our event or make a donation, and click the photos below to read their incredible stories.
