Last year, the St. John’s community came together to raise awareness in the fight against childhood cancer at the first Annual 1st St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Locks of Love event – and was highlighted on WPIX News – Check out the web videos.
Over 25 members shaved their heads and/or “cut their locks” in solidarity with children who suffer from this terminal disease. As part of this event, participants were asked to raise money, and 100% of the proceeds went directly to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Last year alone, the St. John’s community raised over $15,800 and donated 24 locks in love.
So why not join this year’s great event?!? Leading up to the shaving/haircutting event, participants raise money through web-based donations – then on March 16th at 1:30pm, we gather as a community in support of him/her at the day’s festivities, which hope to include the WSJU Radio, someone who is shaved by our very own Johnnie Thunderbird, a 50/50 Raffle, and much more!
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation was founded by a wonderful alumnus, John Bender TCB ’87. His commitment to his Vincentian education is a true testimony to all who meet him. You can read the full story about John Bender, which was featured in the STJ Alumni Magazine, at http://www.stjohns.edu/academics/graduate/tobin/success/alumni/benderjr.stj. We are so proud to be able to host this amazing event on the St. John’s campus.
