Why are we shaving heads at this St. Baldrick's event? Because a group of people are willing to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, who typically lose their hair during treatment. More importantly, we're doing it to raise funds for childhood cancer research! Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is the largest volunteer-driven childhood cancer fundraising organization. In 2011, St. Baldrick's provided 28 million dollars to support childhood cancer research - more than any organization other than the US government. This incredible number of donations was made possible by St. Baldrick's commitment to efficiency that ensures 82% of all money donated to the organization is given directly to support cancer research while only 18% is spent on advertising and management costs. The idea behind St. Baldrick's is simple: donate money to see someone shave his or her head - a small symbol of support for those who have lost their hair during cancer treatment. We're proud to be doing our part to give kids with cancer a better chance for a cure. Please join us!
