Please mark your calendars for February 15, 2024. Two events will take place from 12:00 until 3:00 at Fado Irish Pub. The first is the last retirement party for Hartwell Dew, who is concluding his 46 year career as a reinsurance broker. More importantly though, there will be a head shaving event to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, the leading fundraiser for children’s cancer research. St. Baldrick’s, which was founded in 2000 by three reinsurance executives, has provided over $340 million in grant funding for research into children’s cancer. 100% of Every Dollar we raise goes to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation!
Hartwell,
along with colleagues Rob McKenzie, Matt Cohen, Megan Smith and Bill Allen will shave their
heads for this wonderful cause.
Of
course there is a back story. Hartwell,
along with Bill Allen, shaved his head in 2006 and promised to do so again upon
retirement. Rob followed in 2007. Hartwell's agreement was based on a whim, wanting
to do a good deed as he retired.
However, in August 2023 his 2 ½ year old grandson, Sal Cassata, was
diagnosed with ALL, a form of Leukemia. Sal’s 9 year old brother Joseph will be
shaving as well. What began as a whim
has now become extremely important.
While childhood leukemia is very treatable thanks to wonderful research,
other forms of cancer are not. Our goal
is to raise $200,000 to help “Conquer Kids' Cancer.” We hope that many
individuals, client companies and reinsurers will help us meet this lofty goal.
We hope
you'll participate in the fund raising efforts, even if you were not able to attend our celebration and shaving event on February 15th.
Thanks for the support over these many years!
