Saratoga Fire Hockey will host the Albany Firefighters on March 15 for the 2nd Annual St. Baldrick's Cup presented by King's Tavern, in partnership with Saratoga Fire Hockey and DeCrescente Distributing.
Childhood cancer is the leading disease related cause of death among children in the U.S. It affects infants, children, teens, and young adults with more than a dozen different types (including leukemia, brain tumors, neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma, Wilms tumor, and others). Unlike many adult cancers, childhood cancers are often biologically different and require specialized research for effective, less toxic treatments and true cures. In the U.S., more children die from cancer than from any other disease, more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies, and diabetes combined. Even survivors often face lifelong challenges: by age 50, over 99% of childhood cancer survivors experience at least one chronic health problem, and 96% face severe or life-threatening conditions due to the toxicity of past treatments.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is the largest charitable funder of childhood cancer research grants in the world. Founded from a simple dare among friends in 1999 that turned into a global movement, it is a volunteer- and donor-powered charity dedicated to one mission: funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives. Thanks to research supported by St. Baldrick’s and others, survival rates for the most common childhood cancers have improved dramatically (some leukemias now exceed 90%), treatments are becoming less toxic, and new therapies like immunotherapies are saving children who once had no options. Yet 1 in 5 children diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. still does not survive, and much more research is needed.
Saratoga Fire Hockey has once again teamed up with King's Tavern and DeCrescente Distributing to raise funds for the St. Baldrick's Foundation in the fight to conquer childhood cancer and give kids long, healthy lives.
This promises to be an action-packed day of hockey for an incredible cause, featuring:
Head shaving that begins at 10:00 in the lobby of the ice rink followed by an exciting hockey game between Saratoga and Albany featuring a "Jersey Off Our Backs" silent auction for limited edition Saratoga Fire hockey jerseys. A ton of exciting raffle items and a few more surprises to be announced later.
After the game, join both teams at King's Tavern for an afternoon of celebration, good food, drinks, and friends as we kick off St. Patrick's Day early!
Come out, cheer on the teams, and help make a real difference for kids fighting cancer. Your support funds lifesaving research every donation counts!
