Mothers from Across the U.S. and Canada Go Bald to Support Childhood Cancer Research

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 4, 2015) — The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, announces the sixth annual St. Baldrick’s 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave event. Mothers whose lives have been shaken by childhood cancer will come together to shave their heads in an act of solidarity and to raise funds and awareness for kids affected by cancer. The event will take place at the Kansas City Power & Light District in Kansas City, Mo., on June 20 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The 46 Mommas team is named to reflect the reality that each weekday, on average, 46 families in the U.S. are told that their child has cancer. Each year, a new class of “Mommas” from the U.S. and Canada is inducted into the group to empower and engage mothers of children with cancer. To date, the class of 2015 has raised more than $135,000 to add to the impressive overall total of more than $1.7 million.

“We are so honored to have the support of all 46 Mommas team members,” said Kathleen Ruddy, chief executive officer for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. “These moms have seen firsthand the devastating effects that childhood cancer has on kids and families. This team has become a force to be reckoned with, surpassing their goal of $1 million raised, and continuing to keep pushing for more and inspiring others to get involved. These brave women give hope to so many and we are so grateful for the funds and awareness they are raising to support St. Baldrick’s and our mission to conquer childhood cancers.”
