I first started thinking about shaving my head for St. Baldrick's after my best friend was a shavee last year. As St. Baldrick's Day started getting closer, I realized that if I didn't do it now, when would I? There's no time like the present, and this was an excellent opportunity to give back to a cause close to my heart. When I was in sixth grade, my dad was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. Thankfully, he is now a four-year cancer survivor, but I can still remember how difficult it was for my family while he was battling the disease. St. Baldrick's is a great opportunity to help lessen the burden for families who have it so difficult already.
While I know it won't be easy to lose all of my hair, I'm so excited for St. Baldrick's Day! The actual shaving day is before the final performance of our school's musical, so my friend, Amanda B., and I won't be able to actually lose our hair until after the show. My friends, family, and the entire cast of Chess have all been so supportive of my decision to shave my head, and I couldn't be more excited, especially knowing that it all goes to support a good cause!
