In October 2013, my cousin Cameron Fahey was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I have always considered Cameron to be my little brother. This has been an incredibly difficult journey for our family, but one we have been able to embark on due to the overwhelming love and support of family and friends. I have participated in St. Baldrick's in the past, but it has never been so personal to me. This year I am shaving my head for my little brother. I will not be participating in any "official" shaving party (due to scheduling stuff), but rest assured, my hair will be gone soon.
Having spent time in Lurie's Children's Hospital at Northwestern, I can tell you how amazing it is to see these kids battling cancer. The smiles and their playful nature would bring tears to your eyes, as would their strength and courage. These kids are heroes and have changed my life forever.
If you are able to donate, please do. Don't think there is such a thing as "too little" - every $1 helps. If you are unable to donate at this time, I merely ask that you keep Cameron and every kid going through recovery in your thoughts and prayers. Please send them all of the positive vibes you can muster.
