"I've answered the call to be a hero!"...that's what this message says when you sign up with St. Baldrick's.
A hero for getting a haircut? No, I don't think so....it's only hair and I have plenty of that. It's been shaved off before and it obviously grows back. The real Hero is a child facing up to yet another round of cancer treatments, a child enduring the pain of their sickness. Equating that kind of bravery with 2 minutes under the clippers...well, it's not even in the same sport, let alone in the same ballpark. If participating in this event helps to ease a child's suffering or contributes to more effective treatments then you can shave my head every day.
In addition to raising money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, I'll be donating my silver tresses to the Locks of Love organization. I gave them a substantial ponytail a few years ago and decided to grow it back with another donation in mind.
I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
