My Story

Kristen was a typical 8 year old girl who loved playing with her friends and creating art when diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. After an injury on the playground lead to significant swelling and pain Kristen was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in November 2010. One cannot describe the fear one feels when first you hear the word cancer in the same sentence as your child's name. Kristen showed tenacity and courage as she underwent 14 rounds of chemotherapy and surgery to remove the tumor and salvage her leg. She spent over 90 nights in the hospital and endured more than most can imagine. It was a difficult time.   Kristen had her right leg amputated above the knee and has had lung surgeries, radiation and more chemotherapy due to relapsing (more than once). Despite this she kept up with her school work and remains close with her friends.
