Did you know every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and 1 in 5 of those in the U.S. will not survive?

I was one of those children who heard the words, "You have cancer" and even though I could not fully understand what that meant, my world was forever changed. I was only three years old. My awesome family helped me through along with many supporters. My mom's school, Sequoya, in the Sachem Central School District held an event in my honor right after I finished treatment. Thanks to Ms. Doreen Schaefer and Ms. Jen Jargo I found out about St. Baldrick's. Also, a complete stranger named Cindy Merkler, shaved her long, beautiful red hair in my honor and created an event in my honor as well. I knew that St. Baldrick's was special and that's when I donated my purple piggy bank to my mom's school. I became a guest speaker each year and two years ago I created my own event in the Three Village School District. I was so honored to hold an event at Murphy Junior High where I went to school with the help of my awesome Student government advisers Mr. Gries and Ms. Hill, along with my amazing team of friends.

This year, I am honored to be an Ambassador for St. Baldrick's. I know things are different this year and that is why I am holding this virtual event. I want to continue to spread awareness and to raise funds to fight the war against pediatric cancer. I know how incredibly blessed I am and I remember that not everyone has been as fortunate. My beloved Aunt Sherrie lost her battle to a childhood cancer-Ewing's Sarcoma five years ago. It is for people like my aunt and the many other warriors who lost their battles that I must continue to fight.

Please consider joining my team. We are all stronger together and together we can make a difference. Thank you for all of your love and support. Help me continue to "FIRE CANCER" everywhere. I'll sign off like my mom always does, STAY strong because you ARE and beLIeVE because you CAN. With love, strength and gratitude, Alexa To read more about Alexa as a St. Baldrick's Ambassador, visit the link below! https://www.stbaldricks.org/blog/post/2021-ambassador-alexa-beautiful-soul
