With Purpose Joins St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund Program to Raise Money for Childhood Cancer Research

Charleston, S.C. (March 22, 2021) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, and With Purpose, an organization created to empower and educate the next generation of childhood cancer advocates are proud to announce that With Purpose has become a St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund. As a St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund, With Purpose will be able to utilize St. Baldrick’s resources and world-class scientific review and grant-making process to fund the best childhood cancer research.

In 2015, the Benson-Lee family started the With Purpose non-profit to raise money to fund innovative pediatric cancer research in honor of their son, Sam. Sam was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) in July 2013 when he was 2 years old and passed away in March 2016. Within his short life, Sam taught his parents the reality of unconditional love, the privilege of having the ability to see a problem and make a change, and the path to happiness.

In the six years that With Purpose has operated as an independent organization, it has raised more than $1 million and educated and activated thousands of people across the country to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research.

“With Purpose gave us a way to make a difference on a big problem in honor of Sam. We are thrilled to join forces with St. Baldrick’s to make an even bigger impact for kids with cancer,” said Erin Benson.

By joining with St. Baldrick’s, supporters of With Purpose will continue to provide unwavering support to kids and their families facing childhood cancer through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation Hero Fund.

St. Baldrick’s Hero Funds offer a unique way to fund childhood cancer research in honor or memory of a loved one. Hero Funds also provide an efficient alternative to starting an independent foundation. Using the fundraising and grants administration resources St. Baldrick’s has built over the past 20 years, allows Hero Funds and their supporters to focus their efforts on fundraising rather than starting from scratch.

Hero Funds often raise enough money to name or support a grant focused on their area of special interest. Hero Fund families may develop a connection with their grant recipient and gain an understanding of how their funded researcher’s work is helping to conquer childhood cancers.

With Purpose is one of 84 Hero Funds. In 2020 Hero Funds collectively raised more than $3 million for childhood cancer research.
