St. Baldrick’s Foundation Welcomes Long Time Volunteer and MGM Resorts International EVP John McManus to its Board of Directors

LAS VEGAS (Dec. 15, 2021) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, announces the appointment of John M. McManus, Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary at MGM Resorts International, to its board of directors.

McManus has been a long-time champion of St. Baldrick’s mission to conquer kids’ cancers so that they can live longer and healthier lives. McManus has participated at various St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events in Las Vegas and has raised more than $1.6 million for childhood cancer research.

“Almost everyone has been or knows someone who has been impacted by cancer. In my family, we’ve had many people lose their battles with cancer including my father,” McManus said. “I am blessed to have four healthy children and cannot fathom the instant dread when a family hears their child has cancer. It’s why I do all I can to help give back and give hope to those who are going through the unimaginable. St. Baldrick’s inspires me because so many people are willing to put personal vanity aside and alter their appearances for such a great cause. I am honored to be joining the Board of Directors for such a truly inspiring organization.”

At MGM Resorts, McManus leads legal and government affairs, corporate communications, corporate security, IT security, risk management, compliance, labor relations, and aviation departments. He joined MGM in 2001 and has served in various leadership roles during his tenure. He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for MGM Growth Properties, MGM China Holdings Limited, and MGM Grand Paradise, S.A.
Before joining MGM Resorts, McManus served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary for the Sahara Hotel & Casino and worked as an associate attorney with the Las Vegas law firm of Schreck, Jones, Bernhard, Woloson & Godfrey.

McManus received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in 1989 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami in 1993, where he was a member of the Law Review.

“Since John’s first shave, he has focused his time and efforts on making the greatest strategic impact possible,” said Kathleen Ruddy, St. Baldrick’s Foundation CEO. “Despite his success in raising funds for the cause, he’s always been clear that his priority is helping kids with cancer and he has never sought recognition for his efforts. I know his position in the community will bring the need for less toxic, more effective treatments for children with cancer to take center stage in Las Vegas.”
