St. Baldrick’s Foundation Announces Goal to Raise $75K in One Day with Giving Tuesday Campaign

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 28, 2017) – After the rush of Thanksgiving travels, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, people across the U.S. pause for #GivingTuesday, a national observance day dedicated to giving back. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, is proud to participate for the third year, with an increased goal to raise $75,000 today for lifesaving childhood cancer research.

If St. Baldrick’s reaches its 2017 goal, the Foundation will receive an anonymous donation match, which would bring the total amount raised today to $150,000. The money raised will support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation – Stand Up To Cancer Dream Team, allowing researchers to follow the discovery of new immunotherapy targets.

This year, 7-year-old Grace Brumstead was chosen to be the face of St. Baldrick’s 2017 #GivingTuesday campaign. The epitome of fierce, “Gracie the Ninja Princess” has earned her orange belt in martial arts and has already beat cancer once. Diagnosed with high-risk Ph+ acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at the age of 4, Grace received ten times the regular dose of chemotherapy due to her aggressive cancer. She was immediately put on a clinical trial that increased her survival rate from 20 percent to 70 percent, and although she showed no evidence of disease after two years, she sadly relapsed this year. She recently underwent a bone marrow transplant, and is ready to fight cancer again, while also bringing awareness and hope to others this #GivingTuesday.

“Even though we will be spending the holidays at the hospital with Grace as she continues treatment, we are still thankful,” said Melissa Brumstead, Grace’s mom. “As long as she’s able to keep fighting her cancer, then we will always have something to be grateful for. My husband and I have both shaved our heads at St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events to raise funds for better treatments for our little girl and others like her. We are so thankful for St. Baldrick’s impact on our family, and are honored to have the opportunity to use our story to help others.”
