Fadó Irish Pubs Raise More Than $10 Million for
Childhood Cancer Research

LOS ANGELES (April 13, 2017) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, announced that Fadó Irish Pubs have raised $10,075,575 for the Foundation through head-shaving events to date.

This year, Fadó Irish Pubs celebrate a significant milestone of more than $10 million raised for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. For 15 years – since their first event in Chicago on St. Patrick’s Day – Fadó Irish Pubs have played a major role in the communities they serve, organizing more than 130 head-shaving events with over 8,700 bald heads. The pubs hold a record within the Foundation among participating restaurants and pub chains, having raised the most of any other chain involved.

To push Fadó over the $10 million mark, Kieran McGill, president and chief executive officer of Fadó Irish Pubs, recently shaved his head at the 16th Annual St. Baldrick’s at Fadó Buckhead event in Atlanta. His fundraising efforts alone raised more than $27,000.

“Our pubs support many local charitable causes, but St Baldrick’s Foundation is by far our number one charitable affiliation,” says McGill. “We are proud that we have been able to participate in raising over $10 million for such a great cause. On a personal note, it was a fun experience, and I’m relieved to say that my hair is growing back nicely!”

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation grants make every stage of the research process possible, from ideas in a lab to clinical trials offering hope for a cure. In 2016, the Foundation funded a total of $24.1 million in childhood cancer research grants.

“It’s rare that any company supports a cause for more than a few years in a row, but the fact that Fadó Irish Pubs has so generously been a patron of St. Baldrick’s for a decade and raised more than $10 million, is worthy of applause – it’s a remarkable milestone and speaks to the generosity of their corporate culture,” says Kathleen Ruddy, St. Baldrick’s CEO. “Since 2005, we’ve granted more than $200 million to support the most promising childhood cancer research – something that would not be possible without Fadó’s continued support.”
