$74,410 Awarded to Phoenix Children’s Hospital to Support Groundwork for Childhood Cancer Research

PHOENIX, Ariz. (January 27, 2017) – Childhood cancer patients depend on clinical trials to find new treatment options when most available treatment options don’t work. Phoenix Children’s Hospital will receive an infrastructure grant from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to provide their patients with the most promising new drugs.

Funding from St. Baldrick’s, totaling $74,410, will support a clinical research assistant allowing Phoenix Children’s Hospital to better support their early drug development program.

Infrastructure grants are awarded based on the need of the institution and its patients, anticipated results of the grant and local participation in St. Baldrick’s fundraising events and activities.

“It is an honor to organize the Phoenix St. Baldrick’s event every year to raise research dollars for kids with cancer,” said Poppy Behrens, St. Baldrick’s volunteer event organizer. “On behalf of the entire Phoenix event team, including Dr. Todd Kociancic of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, we are proud to see the fruition of our efforts benefit Phoenix Children’s with this infrastructure grant!”

This series of grants, combined with the more than $22 million awarded in July, brings the St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s funding total to $24.1 million awarded in 2016.
