$181,141 Awarded to UT Southwestern Medical Center to Support Promising Childhood Cancer Research

Part of $22 Million Awarded in New Grants by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation

DALLAS, Texas (September 26, 2016) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-powered and donor-centered charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, is proud to award a $181,141 St. Baldrick’s Fellow grant to support the work of Samuel John, M.D., a researcher at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Even with intense treatment, only 60 percent of children diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia will survive. With this grant from St. Baldrick’s, Dr. John aims to help the other 40 percent. He hopes to discover a new way to kill an aggressive type of leukemia by reengineering immune cells in the body to attack leukemia cells and allow patients to live happy, healthy lives.

Help the St. Baldrick’s Foundation continue to fund the best research, wherever it takes place. Make a donation today.
