Why am I having my head shaved?
While on vacation with my brother in Los Angeles earlier this year, we were unfortunately victims of a mugging and robbery. My brother unfortunately did not survive the attack, and passed away on the 1st of February, 2013.
My brother, Sheron B. Khemlani was an avid supporter of children's cancer research. And every year while at Penn State, he would participate in the annual Penn State 48-hour Dance Marathon which would raise funds specifically for children's cancer research. (www.thon.org)
So in my brother's name, many of our friends got together to hold a charity 3-on-3 basketball tournament to raise money for this cause. We had the tournament on the 7th of April, 2013 and it was a huge success. In total we raised HK$19,484 towards the cause, and my family is going to match this amount as well, for a grand total of HK$40,000. I chose St. Baldricks specifically as I know children's cancer research was very close to his heart and I wanted to get involved locally with a similar cause. Another reason I chose St. Baldricks was because every year my brother and I would visit a special temple in the south of India and one of the rituals of visiting this temple would be to shave our heads. Hence St. Baldricks became a natural choice for me to continue Sheron's legacy here in Hong Kong.
