As many of you know, I am a pediatric oncology nurse. It has become my passion and purpose. When people hear that I am a pediatric oncology nurse, I am often given this response, "Oh, I'm so sorry. That must be so hard." I have to laugh because when I get that response, I know that they are only looking at the sorrow that comes. They don't understand that with the pain and the suffering and the loss there is such beautiful humanity and so much joy.
The children and families that are affected by a cancer diagnosis are so brave, strong and resilient. They are fighters, teachers, comedians, philosophers and they share so much of themselves with everyone they meet and interact with in their lives and through their treatments.
Through a recent injury, I have had to step back temporarily from my work at the bedside, however you can take the oncology nurse out of the hospital but you can't take the oncology nurse out of the nurse. In my downtime, I would like to continue my mission to help find a cure for children's cancer.
So, I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded.
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
I can't do this alone! Every dollar that is donated through St. Baldrick's charity goes directly to helping fund research, clinical trials and studies of new therapies and treatments to help find a cure. I have set my fundraising goal for $1000 because this is the cost to help support the cost for 1 patient in a clinical trial.
Please donate and share this page to help me reach my goal! I am choosing to honor two teenagers who sadly lost their fight against Leukemia. Schyler and Caleb are two of the strongest, funniest, most memorable young people that have ever crossed my path and I'm so thankful for the time I was able to spend with these two incredible humans.
