My professional life has been focused on treating children, adolescents and young adults with brain and spinal cord cancers for almost 40 years. Now, I have been confronting my own cancer (multiple myeloma) with chemotherapy since October 2018 and, having achieved a very good response, am about to undergo a bone marrow transplant using my own blood cells. Before I do so, I do not want to waste the opportunity to take advantage of my predicament; I wish to raise a goodly amount of money in support of the most successful philanthropic foundation supporting childhood cancer in North America –The St. Baldrick’s Foundation. I have had the honor of working with the Foundation for many, many years, reviewing scientific grants for them annually and participating in prior St. Baldrick’s events in California. I have never until now shaved my head (and beard and moustache!) and am thrilled to be doing so on their behalf –and on behalf of the children with brain and spinal cord cancers whose improved cure and quality of life is the mutual goal of all of us.
I am shaving my head in honor of all children, adolescents and young adults with brain and spinal cord cancers currently undergoing treatment in North America today.
If you live in Columbus, please join me for my head shaving:
