I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

There are a few reasons why I am choosing to go bald; first and mostly, because I believe in the cause of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. This foundation has raised over 36 million dollars for childhood cancer research in just one year! Childhood cancer is the second most common killer of children and the causes of childhood cancer are still unknown. This means, that we still do not know how to prevent this gruesome disease. Yet with our lack of knowledge about how to prevent and cure childhood cancer, it remains to be underfunded by the government.

Another reason I am choosing to help teach others and myself that one does not need hair to be beautiful. I currently feel that I am too dependent on my hair and I think that shaving my head will be away for me to detach myself from conventional beauty standards. I hope to grow emotionally throughout this whole process and to also empower and inspire children who have lost their hair through chemotherapy, and let them know that they are still and always will be beautiful whether or not they have hair on their heads.
I believe that by shaving my head for St. Baldrick's I will be able to help others and to also grow myself as an individual.
