Just over three years ago, my nine year old son was diagnosed with leukemia. Please click on his profile as an "Honored Kid" below to learn more about him. Throughout his courageous, inspiring battle with and triumph over cancer, I learned just how important the charity of others is to those in need. When you become the needy one, you truly understand how the charitable efforts of others can help keep you going. Thanks to those who have donated to support cancer research in the past, my son faced a permanent cure rate over 90% compared to a single digit percentage about 40 years prior. We learned first-hand how your life can suddenly and unexpectedly change in an instant, and I encourage you all to keep that in mind as you contemplate a donation. You never know who may be the recipient of your charity tomorrow. It could very well be someone else you know.
Brandon has had some form of chemo just about every day for the last three plus years. He takes his last dose on March 25, 2014. Two days later, I will be shaving my head in honor of him, in celebration of the end of his treatment, and in support of all the kids who fight cancer every day. Those of you who know me know that this will be no small feat. After all, I have been defined by my very curly hair my entire life. However, I have watched Brandon and so many other kids lose their hair without any choice in the matter, and I have seen how all of them refuse to let their hair loss or their cancer define them.
Please support me, Brandon and all of the kids who don't deserve to have to take on this fight, and sponsor me as a "shavee." Alternatively, if you'd like to be a shavee with me, sign up, and we can form a team! St. Baldrick's is an outstanding charity that not only promotes and provides for cancer research globally, but which just granted $50,000 to support new clinical trials at the UVA Children's Hospital where Brandon is treated. Without a doubt, I will wear my bald head proudly in support of the kids, but I can wear it a little more proudly if you help me reach my fundraising goal. Thanks in advance for your support.
