I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity and to raise money for St. Baldrick's to help fight childhood cancer in honor of the Wagner family, specifically Will Wagner. St. Baldrick's is a volunteer-driven charity that funds research to find a cure for childhood cancer. For those of you outside the local area, Will is the son of David Wagner who is the head football coach at Winder-Barrow High School. Will is 8-years old and was diagnosed with a brain tumor last month. He recently completed the first of 3 rounds of chemotherapy at Scottish Rite in Atlanta, and was chosen as the local “Honoree” for this year’s campaign in Barrow County. On March 16, shortly after Will is scheduled to complete his 3rd round of chemo, the drive will culminate with haircuts of “shavees” going completely bald as a sign of solidarity with him, and all children who endure the physical effects of chemo.
The Lord didn’t bless me with height, speed or good looks, but he did give me a reasonably healthy head of hair for someone my age. I’ve always preferred to keep my hair “longish”, and for the next 2 months I am going to abstain from additional cuts to grow it as long as possible prior to the event. Sort of like Gregg Allman with brown hair. If you despise cancer, or simply would like to see how goofy I look bald, I would appreciate your support. My personal fund-raising commitment is $500, but I would like to double that.
I understand times are tough financially for everyone, but if you could find it in your heart to make a small donation in the fight for a cure, you can support my effort by donating directly to “Team Sandlapper” at: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/581226/2013
God Bless you all, and especially Will, the Wagner family, and all children afflicted with this hideous disease.
