Today is the day! I’m participating in St. Baldrick’s Day at Loyola, an annual fundraiser where students raise money to support childhood cancer research by shaving their heads in honor of kids who are fighting cancer. I’m shaving my head to support this awesome organization, and most importantly, the unbelievably strong kids who have faced struggles no child should have to face.
Childhood cancer takes the lives of one in every five children diagnosed in the U.S., and those who beat it have to go through so many hurdles. While interning at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois, I’ve learned of countless children who have been diagnosed with cancer, each story as heartbreaking as the next. Yet, the stories are also a testament to the resilience and hope each child and family possesses and, oftentimes, the power of community support. That is why I am shaving my head—not only to raise money for an organization that provides grants to the most promising pediatric cancer research but also to stand in solidarity with those children who don't choose to be bald.
Please support me as I give up my hair (which will also be long enough to donate to Wigs for Kids!) and help me reach my fundraising goal! Be a hero to a kids with cancer; your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers! Click “Make a donation” to give online, or donate by phone or mail. Please spread the word to family, friends, and coworkers!
Many, many thanks!
