I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!

Educators dedicate their lives to working with children. In the span of a career one educator has an influence on thousands of lives. However; in that time the educator is also influenced by the children he or she works with.
I have been an educator for 30 years. During that time I have met more children than I can count. Each one of them had a unique personality and a unique gift to give the world. While I cannot remember them all some have made a lasting impression on me. One in particular was a young man by the name of Simon. He was one of my students while I was a Special Education Teacher at Jamaica High School in New York City. Simon was a gentle, humble soul. He lived in a tough neighborhood but always seemed to see the best in people. While he was not gifted with great intelligence, he had a wonderful voice. When he sang everyone who heard was touched by the beauty of it. He quickly became the soloist for all of the events at the school, and beloved by students and staff.
During his second year at Jamaica High, Simon became ill. He was hospitalized with leukemia and I remember visiting him in the hospital. Even there he had a smile on his face. When he did return to school he had lost his hair, but not his wonderful personality. He was still the meek, gentile soul that brought out the best in those around him. At the end of that school year I began a new job and lost touch with most of the people from Jamaica High School. When I did get in touch with one of my former colleagues I was saddened to hear that Simon had past.
So I do this to honor Simon with the hope that the money raised by my going bald can go to finding a cure so that children like Simon can have the opportunity to share their gift with the world.
