This year on March 25th, I will be participating in St. Baldricks' hair shaving event. What is THAT you may ask? St. Baldricks is an organization that raises awareness and money for children's cancer research. At their events, there are shavees. These are the participants that have been raising money months prior to the event and then on the day of the event they get their head shaved. I, of course, will be one of the shavees! And I will be donating my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths (http://www.pantene.com/en-US/article/how_wigs_help.jspx) to be made into a wig.
You may wonder (as my dad does) why in the world I would go to such lengths. Well, I am currently working on a nursing degree and plan to someday work in oncology. Children with cancer involuntarily lose their hair and deal with much emotional and physical pain. In shaving my head, I hope to gain some small insight into what it must be like for them dealing with such a terrible disease. And at the same time, I hope to raise $1500 for their cause. Any support or prayers is greatly welcomed and appreciated!
You can donate in one of two ways. The first is simply by writing a check to St. Baldricks Foundation, filling out the donation form (which can be printed off by clicking on the "download donation form" link located inside the blue button on the website) and sending both the form and check to St. Baldrick's at the following address:
St. Baldrick's Foundation
1333 S. Mayflower Avenue, Suite 400
Monrovia, CA 91016-5268
I will be sure and send you confirmation that I have received the donation.
The second way is to donate on the website. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "donate". This button will lead you through the steps to donate online. Also, if you are curious to see how I will look with a bald head, before and after pictures will be posted on the site for your entertainment.
And if anyone who lives in Charlottesville is interested, I would love to have your support at the event. It will be held on March 25 at 6pm at Boylan Heights, which is located on the corner.
If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me by phone at 434-607-7402 or e-mail at lbt8b@virginia.edu. Thank you for your support!
