So you may be wondering, 'Is she going to shave her head?' and the answer is YES! I set the bar high this year and I need your help to reach my goal. All I ask is that 49 of my 83 Facebook Friends donate $10 each. I have already donated the first $10.
When Jonah was diagnosed, it was the scariest part of our lives. Thanks to research and different types of medications, trial and error, being one of the first in a group of kids to try a new protocol, thanks to all of these things Jonah has been in remission since January 2020 and is set to end treatment this August. All of these things that saved him and other kids are all funded by your donations.
So why my hair? Shaving your head shows solidarity to these kids who don't have a choice but to lose their hair. We all know some adults who have also been faced with this recently as well. I'm not afraid to face the challenge of losing what 'makes me feel pretty' and I encourage the rest of you to do the same. It was easy with Jonah, he was a little freaked out when his hair fell out basically overnight. He was totally bummed when he lost his iconic red beard (Bearded Warrior). I read stories all the time from moms who are dealing with their daughters hair loss. The one thing a little girl has that makes her feel like a girl is her hair, we braid it, put bows in it, color it, and let it define who we are as girls. The bravest thing these kids are doing is staring cancer in the face and stating, "I will beat you!" but it comes out sounding like this, "I will leave the house today and ignore the people who are staring at me with my beanie on my bald head!"
So, if you can spare just $10 to watch me lose my 'Muppet Mop' and support these brave kids, please do. It will be one of the best things you've done so far this year and I see you doing many great things this year! Thank you from all of us in the Howell House for your support of Jonah and his journey with childhood cancer.
