I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

It is that time of year when I shave my head to raise awareness of childhood cancer research. As most of you know, my niece and goddaughter Belle was diagnosed with ALL in Dec. 2008. She is now cancer free and doing great! YAY! However, many children still need the support St. Baldrick's Foundation offers.

Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? The average age of diagnosis for childhood cancer is 6 years old, leading to an average of 71 years of life lost. For adults, the average age of diagnosis is 67 leading to an average of 15 years of life lost. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. Only 4% of US Federal funding is solely dedicated to childhood cancer research. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.

St. Baldrick's started in 2000 raising over $100k. Since 2005, the total funding for grants passed $305 million. They are the largest volunteer driven program for childhood cancer research. You can find out more about St. Baldrick's here: http://www.stbaldricks.org/why-we-exist.
