I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Many of you know my "Head-Shaving" journey began in 2005! In 2020, the shave was even more personal. "In Loving Memory to Mom2", Rita Yzquierdo, was recorded on Mother's Day 2020 in memory of my stepmom who lost her battle to pancreatic cancer on April 1st after a three year battle. She was a warrior! With the COVID-19 pandemic, grieving is especially difficult, as I cannot be with the rest of my family. By clicking on the following link, you can donate to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) in her honor.

Typically, I shave through the St. Baldrick's Foundation to raise money for Children's Cancer Research. Though this year's shave was related to an invasive adult cancer, this does not take away from my efforts to raise money for children. I am splitting my charitable efforts this year between PanCAN (in Memory of Rita Yzquierdo), the St. Baldrick's Foundation, and the Alzheimer's Foundation (in honor of Carolyn Gutierrez). Kelly and I have both been impacted, and we hope you will help these non-profits raise money toward finding a cure, so more families do not have to experience the loss of their loved one.

Shaving each year keeps me humble, puts my vanity in check, and allows me to pay it forward. I am so grateful for each day I have on this Earth, and I want my legacy to be one of inspiration and compassion for others. I aspire to motivate individuals, like yourself, to get involved and enrich the lives of others through sharing your special gifts.

Children, such as Emily Ringham, will always be my heroes! Emily shared her story of being diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 10 and how it changed her life. Her childhood was stolen from her, but she does not exude anything but positive energy. She is an incredible and inspiring young woman. To see her story, from her own perspective, please watch this video: https://vimeo.com/89211247.

I shave in solidarity with children and adults fighting for their life! With COVID-19, donations are way down for non-profit organizations, and you may also be impacted if you have been furloughed or lost your job. If you are able to donate, please do.

With gratitude,

Shannon
