I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I'm shaving my head with St. Baldrick's to raise money and help conquer kids' cancers! Every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and 1 in 5 of those in the U.S. will not survive. I’ve decided to fundraise for lifesaving research to find cures and better treatments for kids.

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Katie and I live in New Athens with my husband Nathan. We have two dogs, Larry (beagle) and Kira (german shepherd). I am the Harrison Central Huskies assistant bowling coach and I enjoy bowling in my spare time! I love our Harrison County community and I'm always looking for ways to give back. I'm very excited about giving back through St. Baldrick's Foundation!

For my first event, I'm raising funds in memory of Andrew Palmer. Drew's family lives in my community and their little boy was stronger than most grown adults. Drew was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma (in his spine) in August 2015 at the age of 7 and passed away August 29, 2016 at the age of 8. I got to know Drew's mom Elisha after he passed.  Elisha inspires so many to give back to childhood cancer patients. I'm honored to raise funds in Drew's memory. Drew is #forever8 and I will cherish keeping his memory alive by honoring him during my first shaving event!

COVID-19 has halted a lot of donation events so I wanted to virtually participate! I will not let this virus stop me from trying to raise funds for St. Baldrick's Foundation. This organization and its' donors raise so much - I'd hate to see the virus impact potential success.

Now I need your support! Your donation can fund research to help kids survive and thrive. Join me today and let’s #DFYchildhoodCancers together.

If you cannot donate at this time, please know you can still help by sharing the word. I cannot wait for this experience! I'll go Facebook live when the date comes to shave off my hair! I'll keep everyone posted if the date gets pushed back due to any news Governor DeWine announces on May 1st.

Update! In less than 24hours since originally posting my donor page, I have raised $1,831.00 - that blows my mind! I have the greatest support system ever. I am doing this until May 2nd so I can only begin to imagine where this journey will take me. I appreciate each and every single person whether you donate, share my page or just visit to read about Drew and why I've decided to be a shavee!!

04/20/2020 Update! In just over 72 hours from posting my donor page I have reached $2,543.00 in donations. Amazing! The memory of Drew Palmer lives on through so many. Whether you share, donate, or send good vibes to my virtual shavee event.. thank you. From the bottom of my heart - everything means more to me than you know.

Thank you! I appreciate you all!
