Sooooooo, I’m doing St Baldrick’s again! I’ve been asked time and time again... why I do this? Why do I shave my head? Well, over the years my answer has been that it would be so horrible for a parent to hear that their child has a disease with no cure. But, imagine how the child feels when they find out that they have cancer? They may not be educated, or be too young to understand, but hearing that, even if you barely know what cancer is, would be completely devastating. I would never want to imagine what it would be like for my parents to tell me that I have a disease that I know so much about, having heard the horrors that people who I know have experienced. Imagine being sick like that as a child and losing your hair? You would most likely feel like the odd one out. Your friends would have hair and they may try to support you, but they may be incredibly confused and feel helpless. Throughout the course of the sickness, you would be poked and prodded by doctors trying to help you. It would be very painful. I shave my head so that no child or parent never has to experience the horrors of cancer.
I am setting my goal at $5,500 because I have beat this number before, but this is also my fifth year shaving my head, so $5,500 seems like a reasonable goal. I hope that the money raised funds childhood cancer research so well that a cure is found to save the lives of all children affected by this disease. Even though we can’t bring back those angels we have lost, we can change the outcome for many children. I hope that you will donate to help save the lives of these children.
