Why am I shaving my head, and why should you care?
Cancer is a harsh reality for many families, mine included. 1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. won’t survive. For those who do, more than 96% have severe or life-threatening conditions by the time they are 50 (including me at age 20).
Furthermore, it is an expensive reality for many families. I have had around $3 million dollars of medical treatment to take care of me. And yet, unlike a celebrity spending $3 million, not much was gotten nor is noticeable with this expenditure. The only thing it was spent on was to keep the status quo the same… to keep me living.
My participation in this event is to fight back and take a stand for change. I wish to highlight in my community what myself and so many others go through as a result of treatment, and to take a stand for change via my pocketbook too. Each shaved head, every dollar donated, creates a ripple effect of progress for kids with cancer.
Your gift will give kids and their families hope, supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Together, let’s give these kids the lifetime they would otherwise not have. Thank you for your support!
