I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Many times as a kid and teenager, I made the decision to cut off most of my (always long) hair for donation to be made into wigs for those in need. In May of 2011, after feeling like I wasn't doing enough, came weeks of research. Then I made a decision that would change my life, my perspective on life, and how I see things everyday. I chose to shave my head to raise money for childhood cancer research through The St. Baldrick's Foundation.

I was nervous, anxious, and honestly a little scared, but I went through with it, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Since that day, I have chosen to be a St. Baldrick's shavee 6 more times. Each time since, I've still been nervous and anxious, but no longer scared. I know that every time, just like the last, I will get odd looks from strangers, some people will stare, and I will have a very cold head when I forget my hat during the winter. However, I will also get those who come up to me, and ASK why my head is shaved. I then have the opportunity to tell them why I did it, tell them all about St. Baldrick's and the amazing things they are doing for childhood cancer research, and for childhood cancer patients. I also get to explain that for me, it's just a haircut, one that I CHOSE. But for the thousands of  infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers, they don't HAVE a choice.

I CHOOSE to shave my head, in solidarity of those that don't get a choice. With the hope that every time I do it, the money I raise will one day help to ensure that there will no longer be a parent every 2 minutes, being given the devastating news that their child has cancer. I choose to shave my head hoping that one day, EVERY child will have the opportunity to live a happy, healthy, and long life. I choose to shave my head, because I want a cure.

This year, on Christmas Eve, I will be doing a double donation. First, I will be cutting off all of my hair for donation to be made into wigs for children, teens, and young adults suffering from medical hair loss. Then, I will be shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research through The St. Baldrick's Foundation.

Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference! ❤️
