This will be the 11th year I will be shaving my head. It all started 12 years ago when my son Ryan was 6 years old and in the hospital. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong with him. He had terrible headaches and his neck hurt whenever he moved it. The doctors did many tests including multifple CT scans and MRI's. He was in the Children's oncology ward at Lutheran General Hospital. He was scared, my wife Tracy and I were very scared. Thankfully one of the scans showed an abcess near his brain that with medicine eventually shrank and dissolved.

Throughout the nine day ordeal I would run into the same people coming in and out of the hospital. They would be coming and going with suitcases for themselves. They were families not as fortunate as ours. Their children had been diagnosed with various forms of cancer. They were there fighting for their lives everyday. Unsure of what the next hour, day or week would bring.

About a week after Ryan was released from the hospital I received an email from a friend asking me to donate to St. Baldrick's. The email explained how the money raised by this wonderful foundation goes directly towards research into finding a cure for all different types of cancer that strikes children. I called him up and said I wanted to shave my head in solidarity of children with cancer and I wanted to raise money for this cause. Ryan told me he also wanted to shave his head for his friends from the hospital.  He has since shaved 8 times too!

So here we are twelve long years later and we are still in search of a cure. There are still families burdened everyday with the life changing words from a doctor telling them that their young daughter or son has cancer. It will change their lives forever.
