My Story

Update on Benji:Benjamin was diagnosed with a rare form of Brain Cancer in 2014 so rare he was the 18th case in 20 years on the West Coast side of the Country. Benji has gone though more then most adults will face in a lifetime. At 9 months old he was rushed to the ER only to hear those four words no parent should ever hear "Your Child Has Cancer". The next day Benji would undergo a six and a half hour brain surgery to remove the mass that was taking up over more then a quarter of his Brain. It was a Miracle Benji made it out of that operating room and nearly lost his life three times during the procedure. To think that was just the beginning was impossible for our family to fathom. Today Beni is Thriving and recently had a Birthday turning 5yrs old and this is a tremendous milestone for our Cancer Fighter and this is why we plead that you join us in our efforts to Raise Funds for such a Special Organization. Benji is Surviving each and everyday that passes but by no means does this mean we will ever stop fighting for a cure. Over the course of Treatment Benji had to undergo many difficult days at times we were not promised he would be strong enough to survive what he would be faced with. No Child should have to endure this much pain and suffering from Brain Surgery to 127 Hours of toxic Poison Pumped through his tiny veins. Benji would need 6 rounds of Adult Strength Chemotherapy (his regimen was similar to the same protocols that were available in the 70's), after our Initial Chemo Therapy we saw no Change in Benji's Cancer and the Cancer had already Spread and Metastasized through his entire Spine but we refused to give up. We then put our Child through the Transplant Round(s) hoping one transplant would be enough it was not, so not two but Three Stem Cell Transplants was what it took to save our Child. It was not an easy road Benji has had Major Issues related to the High Dose Chemotherapy he received to ultimately save his life. Benjamin spent over 400 days in the Hospital, Over 65+ Blood and Platelet Transfusions, Airway Defects, Lung Issues, Tubes in just about every organ and body part imaginable. Since then Benji has had over 100+ appointment combined with Physical, Occupational, Speech and Feeding Therapy. Over the course of time our Child could not eat due to Nausea and GI Blisters a common side effect he required Intravenous Nutrition called TPN (total parenteral nutrition) from the time he was 9 mo-2yrs old he only weighed 9-12Kilos at his highest he then advanced to a NG Feeding tube and to this day has resulted in many Feeding Disorders from going so long without oral nutrition. As if this wasn't enough the Chemotherapy Destroyed all of his teeth requiring 17 teeth to be removed along with his cells in his teeth the Fibers in his Ears were also Destroyed resulting in Permanent Hearing loss and now requires Hearing Aids. To this day our Child has had 26 MRI's thats 26 doses of Sedation and General Anesthesia 26 Hospital visits not including the 38+ Hospital Admissions he has had over the years. This is What Childhood Cancer Really is Benjamin will Never know a Normal Life and sadly this is all he knows, a Childhood Cancer Fighter can only Dream of what its like to have a Normal Sick Day. A Child Fighting Cancer is given only 4% Funding but together we can Make A Difference. So Please Share our Story help us Raise The Funds Needed so our Children can have a Chance at Life. To think this was just the beginning was impossible for our family to fathom but we knew this was our new Reality and it would be a long journey. Today Beni is Thriving and recently had a Birthday, 5yrs old and this is a tremendous milestone for our Cancer Fighter and this is why we plead that you join us in our efforts to Raise Funds for such a Special Organization. Benji is Surviving each and everyday that passes but by no means does this mean we will ever stop fighting for a cure. This is exactly what it take to be a Voice for Childhood Cancer. Over the course of Treatment Benji had to undergo many difficult days at times we were not promised he would be strong enough to survive what he would be faced with. No Child should have to endure this much pain and suffering from Brain Surgery to 127 Hours of toxic Poison Pumped through his tiny veins. We then put our Child through the Transplant Round(s) hoping one transplant would be enough it was not, so not Two but Three Stem Cell Transplants was what it took to save our Child. Over 87 million Stem Cells Transplanted with very little time in-between to recover we would see his body was only getting weaker day by day. It was not an easy road Benji has had Major Issues related to the High Dose Chemotherapy he received to ultimately save his life. Benjamin spent over 400+ nights in the Hospital, Over 65+ Blood and Platelet Transfusions, Airway Defects, Lung Issues, Tubes in just about every organ and body part imaginable. As if this wasn't enough the Chemotherapy Destroyed all of the cells in his baby teeth (and possibly adult teeth) requiring 17 teeth to be removed. The list goes on with the daily struggles he faces along with all of these side effects the Fibers in his Ears were also Destroyed or Burnt from Chemo to be clear, resulting in Permanent Hearing loss and now requires Hearing Aids. To this day our Child has had 26 MRI's thats 26 doses of Sedation and General Anesthesia 26 Hospital visits not including the 38+ Hospital Admissions he has had over the years. The Transplant Rounds alone equal 3+ years worth of Chemo given in such a short amount of time. This is What Childhood Cancer Really is Benjamin will Never know a Normal Life and sadly this is all he knows, a Baby should be meeting milestones and learning to develop into a Child that only has nightmares not live one. Childhood Cancer Fighters can only Dream of what its like to have a Normal Sick Day. A Child Fighting Cancer is given only 4% Funding but together we can Make A Difference.
