DECEMBER 19th UPDATE: Kathy, Colby and I were invited to the Maga Design Annual Christmas Party/Fundraiser last week. Colby was the guest of honor, an idea conceived by Mr. Van Williams (a co-worker and brother of the CEO). Well, the friends and family of Maga Design have so far donated over $1,220 to the JFK 50 Miler fundraiser and Scott Williams (CEO) has promised to match all donations made from the Christmas party. Kathy and I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Scott Williams (CEO), Rebecca Williams (VP), Van Williams (brother of Scott), Gill Humphreys (CFO), Elizabeth Pfeifer (Chief of Staff), Steve (Web Designer) as well as the entire Maga Team for your support in our efforts to raise money for the St. Baldrick's foundation. Thank you all and Happy Holidays.
NOVEMBER 24th UPDATE: Race complete! Pictures from the race are below. As you can see we surpased the $3,500 goal. The race didn't go as planned but what in life does? Thanks to my support team at the race and the support from the fundraiser, I was able to finish. From Team Colby to you - THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
NOVEMBER 22nd UPDATE: Last night and we hit the $3,500 goal. Thank you all.
NOVEMBER 20th UPDATE: 3 Days until Race Day. $2,952 raised. Colby shaved my head before bed tonight, ready to run!
Hello again. Thanks to your generosity last April, you helped Team Colby raise close to $10,000 for the Parents and Children Fighting Cancer fundraiser event at Rira Irish Pub in Bethesda, MD. Well, Team Colby is at it again with a "fall fundraiser" to help keep this fight going. On November 23, I (Colby's dad) will be running the JFK 50 Mile Ultramarathon to help raise the money that is so desperately needed for pediatric cancer research. Although I won't be breaking any land speed records, my goal is quite simple - to accomplish this single extraordinary feat for those children who accomplish the extraordinary everyday, as they fight cancer.
This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. Please help us support these kids who are all fighting the good fight. Please share this link with friends and family. Thank you!
I would also like to take the chance to thank the Doctors, Nurses and support staff on the Third Floor Pediatric Unit and the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland. Colby has been a patient there since October 6, 2011, the care has been wonderful. A heartfelt thank you from the Wood Family.
Forgot to mention, a St. Baldrick's fundraiser wouldn't be complete without a honorary head shaving. So I will have Colby shave my head prior to the race, pictures will be uploaded when complete.
