This has been such an amazing journey. And it has been so fun to watch MaiLanni's character blossom through it. We have meant unbelievably amazing life-long friends; That have fed her empathy, confidence, love & compassion. We have also meant some very... outspoken, cruel, not-so-compassionate induviduals; That we are also thankful for, because they prepared her for reality as an adult and gave her thicker skin. While teaching her the invaluable lesson that we never know what is happening behind anyone's closed doors. They could have just lost a spouse or child for all we know. So she now knows to treat EVERYONE with kindness ALWAYS! No matter how poorly they choose to treat us. As well as that we can only control our own actions.  Bad things are always going to happen in life. Wether its the way others treat us, me getting cancer again, or a car accident completely out of your control; It is how we choose to react to the bad things that show our true character and determine the true strength & goodness inside of us. This amazing, inspiring fundraiser has thankfully reminded me of all of those things & made me much more conscience of my own actions & reactions to life in general. These months have resulted in 2 girls immensley bettering themselves & overall living a much more conscience, humble life. While contributing a significant monetary sum to pediatric cancer research & clinical trials for children devoid of anymore hope & no longer responding to traditional treatments such as chemotherapy.

We are so very grateful for this wonderful, selfless foundation & city we live in. Without our compassionate community none of this would have been possible. Thank you so much to all of our donors here in our gorgeous PNW! As well as any of our neighbors that were kind to MaiLanni through this adventure, or just gave us their time. Thank you even to our amazing neighbors that cussed an 11year old, trying to make a positive difference in this not-always-pretty world, out; or spread false rumors that this was not a legitimate foundation because you were so incredibly angry that we missed your, "NO SOLICITING", sign that you puzzlingly decided to try to sabotage a little girls VERY LEGITIMATE & REPUTABLE fundraiser. I am absolutely dead serious and not being sarcastic in the least.. Seriously. Thank you. You showed us how much words can hurt, made sure we had to work hard for this success (as you often do in life), taught us many invaluable lessons, exercised my patience- alot, & overall made us much more considerate of ALL HUMANS in our everyday lives. Best of all you made us so much more grateful for our fellow community members that treated us with kindness. Many nights I would reluctantly take MaiLanni out to fundraise (after quite an impressive begging/debate/guilt session from her), after already working 12-14hrs. immediately prior. And with how cold it's been this year there's been more than a few nights that we both went anyway with awful colds, sore throats, runny noses and each of us went out once (@2 different times) with pretty high fevers, every muscle & bone shaking, body parts we didn't think could hurt, aching. Like our eyelids aching almost unbearably everytime we blinked from being so weak and sick & being so nauseous just a normal everyday smell of dinner (I'm sure tasted divine), sent me fleeing to the bushes around the corner right in front of a donor. But when I told MaiLanni it wasn't possible for me to go that day and apologized but ultimately attempted to renig on my word, she argued that i had made it through the first few hours of the morning to complete non-negotiable, priority tasks at work & pointed out that the fundraiser was a priority and commitment as well. And that I always tell her that even if we lose all of our material possessions, we will always have our word. I was already convinced, but moving & responding much slower than normal. Before i could get the words out to agree with her, she looked me in my eyes, dead serious, & said, "Mommy, are you as sick or sicker right now than when you did the chemo last time?" I was taken aback but answered, "No baby. I have never in my cancer-free life felt that awful or even comparable to when we were fighting cancer. Why, Buggie?". When she responded I felt mixed emotions of pride, defeat, hopeless, overwhelming.
