On 11 November I will take part in the Monterey Bay Half Marathon.
I'm not a runner, in fact, I actually hate it. So, why would I choose to go run 13.1 miles? His name is Jonathan and he is currently going through treatment for a malignant brain tumor.
I started running earlier this year, logging miles towards my goal of 628.8 miles before the end of the year. 13.1 miles for each week of Jon's chemo. 48 weeks=628.8 miles. But that's not enough, those miles are really just for me. I want to do more.
So, I signed up to run a half marathon, something I never had any interest in doing, something that seems ridiculous and hard. I'm going to run in Jonathan's honor and to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer.
When I don't feel like going out for that training run or like I want to quit, I'm going to think about Jonathan and his family, because what they're doing is so much harder.
I’m going to be logging runs and sharing progress as I train for this thing. You can follow along at justputyourshoesonandrun.wordpress.com
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Your gift will give hope to the families of kids just like Jonathan who face the scary reality of cancer.
So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids.
