POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19! We will still have the BIG PARTY! Date is TBD - 9th Annual Southern Colorado St. Baldrick's Family Fun Event At Jimmy's

********************************UPDATE***********************************

Unfortunately, we were unable to hold the event as scheduled this year due to the COVID-19 aka: Coronavirus outbreak. The big party WILL happen! We just don't know when yet. All future updates for the big party can be found at www.SoCoHatesCancer.com

They will also be posted on the event Facebook page at:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/socohatescancer/

VIRTUAL SHAVES:

Shavee's are encouraged to participate in a virtual shave. Create a video (or photos) of you shaving your head. Then just upload it to the Facebook page. You can also post pictures as well if you would like to.

DONATIONS:

Instructions for sending in your cash, check and credit card donations can be found on the Foundation website here:https://preview.tinyurl.com/v3qqpxf

Also, Chris Morales (owner of Jimmy's) is one of our Registered Treasurers. She has offered to accept your donations at Jimmy's as well if that is easier for you. She asks that you seal them in an envelope with the amount, your name and your phone number on the outside of it and give it to the bartender on duty. Please make sure we can read it! :)

T-SHIRTS:

Robin has the list of people who have raised over $50. If you have raised over $50 and have not received your t-shirt yet, please text her at (719)248-6392. She will make arrangements to get your 2020 commemorative t-shirt to you. If you have not raised at least $50 yet but want a t-shirt, there is still time to do it! We actually have until September to keep raising money. It was unfortunate that we had to postpone the big party but this could actually be a blessing in disguise. The extra time has created the potential for this to be the biggest fund-raising year to date!

I apologize for the event disruption this year. In light of the current world-wide health crisis, I felt it was in everyone’s best interest to do it this way. It wasn’t an easy call to make. Yes, we had to change the way we do things a bit and we weren’t able to have the big party as scheduled. But, it will still happen as soon as we feel it is safe to do so. Until then, we will make the best of it. Ultimately, we are still raising funds to fight childhood cancers. There has been a ton of progress achieved throughout the years but there is still more to do and that is why we do what we do. If you have questions, there are many answers here

Thank you for your hard work and dedication. You are greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Grant Shay, Volunteer Event Organizer

Be a hero for kids with cancer! Join this St. Baldrick's event, and whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer, or donate, we hope you'll be a part of the excitement. The Foundation continues to make great strides in funding very important new research and treatments that will continue to save more and more lives. There is still a lot to do. As I was writing this in 2015, I received a notification email from the Foundation that one of the 2015 St. Baldrick's Ambassador's passed away earlier in the day. Caroline Richards was 12 years old. Andre & Colton are two of our Honored Kids once again for this event. Andre and Colton have volunteered to help us kick it off again by shaving silly designs in my head. Benjamin and Emmalynn are Honored Kids also but as of this writing, it is unsure if they are going to be able to attend the 2020 event. As soon as I know for certain, I will post it here. Justin has always been one of our Honored Kids and he always will be. Justin lost his battle and became an angel in 2014 but he will continue to be one of our Honored Kids every year because that is exactly why we are doing this, to put a stop to losing kids to horrific cancers. Go to YouTube and search for "Justin Miller Ninja." THAT is why we do what we do! Rest easy Justin, you were an absolutely awesome young man! Once again, we are going to have a ton of fun this year! The Ninth Annual Southern Colorado St. Baldrick's Event at Jimmy's Tavern in Pueblo West is right around the corner. Tony Ruiz of STAR Music Services is putting together a cadre of bands willing to donate their time and talent again so we can all enjoy live music all day and the Pueblo Young Marines will be grilling their delicious burgers. In the last 8 years, this awesome event has raised well over $100,000! $60,000 was raised in 2019 alone. Many thanks to everyone that worked so hard to make that a reality! We won't stop until cures have been found for ALL childhood cancers. Many advances have been made but there is still a lot of work to be done. Sign up now by clicking the "join us" button. It only takes 30 seconds to complete. If you have participated in the past, just log in to your account and update your event to this new one. Make sure you list your T-shirt size. Everyone who raises at least $50 will win a free commemorative T-shirt. We would like to have a team from each school. If you have a child who wants to participate, and their school doesn't have a team yet, form a team and invite their friends to join. If someone doesn't want to shave their head, that's okay. They can still sign up as a Volunteer instead of a Shavee and still raise money for their team. Your friends and family from out-of-state can even join your team or start their own associated with this event. If they can't make it the day of the event, they can be a "Virtual Shavee" and have their head shaved at their local barber. Since 2007, as part of the St. Baldrick’s Chicago Area Schools Challenge, local students, faculty, and their communities have united to Conquer Childhood Cancers, shaving more than 32,000 heads in solidarity with kids who typically lose their hair during childhood cancer treatment. In that time, they have raised more than $14.4 million for childhood cancer research - but that is just a drop in the bucket of what is needed to win this battle. Local schools in Southern Colorado are coming together to replicate this awesome feat! If your school has set up a team yet, do it today. The school that raises the most will have the traveling trophy for the coming year. In 2019, Centennial High School earned the trophy! They have it on display for all to see in their trophy case at this time. A HUGE thank you to YOU for being a part of such an awesome community group! Let's do this!
