Texas Rio Grande Valley Shaves Heads for Cancer
Ever been to a St. Baldrick's head-shaving event? Well here is your chance.
This will be the fourth such event in the Rio Grande Valley. Volunteers will be shaving their heads as part of a nationwide effort to raise funds for childhood cancer research. The initial valley event held on February 22, 2009 raised $28,914 to help find a cure for childhood cancer. Our second event on March 2010 raised $31,400.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation began in 2000 as a casual conversation between friends and has exploded into the world's biggest volunteer-driven fundraising program for childhood cancer research. Over 22 million in raised in 2010 at events such as ours. The total funds raised since the first St. Baldrick's event exceeds 80 million. Fundraisers have been held in 50 states and 24 foreign countries including one in Iraq in 2008. And now its the turn of the Rio Grande Valley.
You've all heard of sponsored walks? How about a sponsored head shave?
Less strenuous! All you do is sit in the chair & have your head shaved. Your friends & family will pledge donations on your behalf & best of all, your participation is a bold statement of solidarity with children fighting cancer who typically lose their hair during treatment.
Volunteers are needed to shave their heads in honor of loved ones affected by cancer.
There will also be an silent auction and raffle at this event. Valley Merchants and Craftsmen are urged to donate items.
