At St. Baldrick's head-shaving events, Shavees raise money for childhood cancer research by pledging to shave their heads in support of children with cancer, who often lose their hair during treatment.  While we don't actually collect hair donations, volunteers are welcome to cut their hair while fundraising for St. Baldrick's and donate it to another organization.  It's a great way to help two charities at once, and you can do it all in five easy steps!

Step 1:  Sign Up
If you want to cut some of your hair to donate, first register as a Do What You Want Fundraiser.

Step 2:  Choose a charity
Decide where you'd like to donate.  There are plenty of places to donate hair specifically to make wigs for children with different types of hair loss, but there are also groups that give to adults.  Choose the organization that best resonates with your reason of wanting to give.

Step 3.  Spread the Word
Let your friends, family and colleagues know that you plan to donate your hair through the message center on your Fundraiser page, and through email and social media.  Ask them to make a donation for childhood cancer research to honor your hair sacrifice.

Step 4.  Make the cut?
Right before you cut your hair, be sure to secure in several ponytails or braids and ask the barber to cut each of them off above the elastic.

Step 5.  Mail your mane
Charities have varying requirements when it comes to sending them your hair donation.  Be sure to follow their directions on how to pack and mail your mane.

Check out these organizations that collect hair donations for wigs.  These are simply suggestions and there's no obligation to use these sites.  Always do your own research before donating!

This year, we will be linking our event to a St. Baldrick's Hero Fund, which donates 100% of money raised to a specific research grant. By linking to a St. Baldrick's Hero Fund, we will know exactly what childhood cancer research grant our event is supporting. This year we are supporting the Emily Beazley's Kures for Kids Hero Fund. Emily Beazley (an honorary Chicago Police Officer and daughter of Detective Beazley from Area South) fought and battled cancer 3 times over 4 years, and sadly passed away at age 12 in 2015. This fund was established in her memory. Emily Beazley's Kures for Kids Hero Fund finances the most promising research grants for all types of childhood cancer.

Be a hero for kids with cancer!

Join this St. Baldrick's event, and whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer, or donate, we hope you'll be a part of the excitement!

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.

Get involved and you'll be giving hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers!
