Sigma Nu established the Helping Hand Initiative – the Fraternity’s official philanthropic and service effort – in 2014, at its 61st national convention.
The Helping Hand Initiative (HHI) consists of three primary components: The Founders’ Month-ofService, which takes place during the month of April; the Helping Hand Partners, which help connect chapters to needs within their local communities; and servant-leader focused education to help members internalize the importance of mutuality and altruism.
A chapter’s participation in the Helping Hand Initiative benefits not only the community, but chapter members as well. By participating in the Helping Hand Initiative, chapter members build project management and communication skills and create numerous networking and leadership development opportunities. The collegiate chapters also benefit by improving community relations, building a positive chapter image, and furthering the brotherhood of the chapter.
St. Baldrick's is the newest Helping Hand Partner and Sigma Nu is encouraging all of their chapters to host or participate in a St. Baldrick's event in order to help raise money for life-saving childhood cancer research! Childhood Cancer is the number one disease killer of children in the U.S. By hosting head-shaving events you are not only helping us to close the funding gap but you are making the brave decision to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer!
