Dear Emily,

I will love you forever and ever. All the time I think about how it would be without you here, but I never could, because that topic is beyond imagination. I would also like to wish you the best birthday of your life. Since you didn’t have a Sweet 16, let’s try to give you a Sweet 17.

One of the many reasons that I love you is because as an individual, singular person, you have touched so many people. When you were in treatment and fighting cancer, you were winning in a way I didn’t even know was possible. When you destroyed cancer, in a righteous battle, you inspired me to try and raise more money this year than last year.

You are my sister. You are the only one I will ever get. So I don’t want you to lose. Keep fighting on with the greatest power in the universe, the love of your family.

I should be the most scared in the family — you survived middle school, so I need your help to get through it, and I need to know what to do and what not to do. (I mean, with the things I say, I would probably be beat senseless by the 7th and 8th graders…)

Emily, I will love you forever, and even when we fight — well, what siblings don’t fight?

Emily Rose Magilnick, I will love you and help you for the rest of your life and mine.

Happy 17th Birthday!

Your brother, who will love you forever,

Max
